When we started editing our Thriller we first logged our shots and named them e.g. “Tracking Shot Cathrina” this was because we could then easier find and paste the shots into the timeline. After we did that we looked at the storyboard and put the shots in the right order. This was our first rough cut. Through the whole process we developed a kind of routine and got better and better. After we finished this process we started to trim the clips in some cases it was just about one or two frames less or more but they made the differences. All in all we used a slow cutting style not as slow as noir movies or films tat came with the “nouvelle vague” but slow for Hollywood standards. This created a smooth atmosphere. We connected some cuts through a well known and effective technique called “mach on action” were one action is cut to another shot in the middle. But also we used called “motion” where there is no connection between cuts they is just switch without any similarity. This two techniques contrast each other and trough this they getting more effective e.g. because the eye is used to the “Motion” the cut in a movement (Match on action) get nearly invisible.

We started to create two different style of editing. We finished our first vision which was edit straight and with out any special cuts. We decided to give the sequence a kind of unsteadiness to show her desperation and inner nervousness. We choose to use things like Focus Pulls, Jumps Cuts Rewinds, Flash-Frames, Colour Flashes and High Shutter work.
The other version consists of quite long shots in terms of duration.
Sound is really important in our sequence. Because of the fact it is shot quite slow and steady we have to keep the audiences attention through the use of sound. The audience is used to fast cuts, fast location changes and is not used to see things in a movie that are not 100% required. Our scene consists out of slow cuts and calm camera movements. We chose Charlie Clousers-Dead Silence from the movie Dead Silence as our underlaying soundtrack. It creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for the audience and still has a calm element in it. Through the change of the dynamic it makes the scene more interesting. It starts very calm and than shows how distress our created character in the sequence is.

We divided our sequence in two parts (in terms of sound). We have a introducing part which show that our character is walking into the library and putting the books on the table. In this scene we have Non Diagetic sound ( Dead Silence) to types of Diagetic sound which is, her feet walking and the books slamming on the table. This is a laud sudden noise which leads into a black out where the title of the film appears. The Next part is research where we decided not to use Diagetic Sound and just let the soundtrack play over the sequence. The instrument which plays is a Glockenspiel which creates a calm but also creepy atmosphere. I would compare it to the Song of “A Nightmare On Elmstreet“ when the little children are singing. It is in my opinion a juxtaposition because a normally nice sound plays such a creepy tune. The music adds to our NON-VIOLENT sequence a kind of fear of the suspect. Even if there is nothing really scary in the sequence the music shows that there is something which is dangerous and the audience will find out later in the movie.

We chose to in cooperate our titles into the scene and not to add them later in Final Cut or After Effects. For example our actress highlights “Edited by Elly Sams” or writes down “Starring Cathrina Kirby”. But what we added a special effect on After Effects which was we blurred and blacked out the parts that were not essential for the title so the audience attention would be directly led to the Credit. Also our last title which is “Directed by Felix Klinkhammer” is the only title which is added with After Effects. It flashes up in photocopier and than fades a way. We alwayse worked with two layers in pur timeline one where we did not add effects and one where we added the effects. This was essential because we needed to establishe the change from the normal footatge to the effect. Then we chagend the brightness and the Contrast of the "Effect Layer" and blurred the things out we thought were not needed.
Our Sequence alone would not be that effected also just the music would not be that interesting and it is also not about special effects, what makes our sequence worth watching is, that they combine each other perfectly and that is what we tried to achieve.
We did not over done anything in our sequence but if all these three factors come together we have a good balanced peace of footage which well over thought.
