It is like in a Genre Movie which has fixed conventions. People need/want those conventions so they feel familiar with the story even if they have not seen the film. However some film and pop videos are also very successful because they subvert those conventions. This makes the film special and less predictable.
-The explicit and unashamed promotion of the artist's "inane" (aesthetic/generic/ideological) as a specific product with a brand identity, ready for mass consumption. According to Dyer the artist should be young, glamourous, rebellious, edgy and should have some sort of sexual magnetism.
-A pop video should also feature the artist (almost without exception). There should be at least 30 seconds footage of the main singer and 20 sec of the other band members.
-A wide and extensive use of shot types, camera angles and movement should be used. This gives the video a kind of change and depth.
-Also repetition of reoccurring thematic elements and generically specific iconography are needed (one key element often being dominant and providing the skeletal structure for the promo). This should be shown at least 3 times to the audience in order to highlight its importance.
-The flexibility of disregard Realism (Discontinuity) should be used. Also the shots should be cut tightly to the beat of the track. This creates some sort of a flow and makes it easier to watch. Using special effects such as lighting, animation, CGI, in-camera effects are there to heighten the originality of the video. It needs to catch the eye of the viewer it must have a High impact instantly!
-My three ideas consist out of a typical pop videos which will have all of the conventions mentioned above. My other idea will challenge these slightly by using camera techniques that do not belong into the pop video genre (skate videos). Finally my third idea subverts conventions like cutting shots tightly to the beat this is because the message of the video is not something that reinforces thinking outside of the box so cuts are randomly chosen.
When I pitched my ideas to ,our teacher and Executive Producer I first played him the songs so he could get the mood of the music and to help him visualizing my
ideas. I explained my three ideas. He said that they needed development but they could work. Some of them (Bob Dylan- Blowin' In The Wind) would be hardto shoot but he liked the idea. The other twos were a bit to mainstream for him, which I personally like because there is nothing bad about going with the flow. I argued that I do not want to challenge any pop conventions with my other two ideas (Rollin'-Limp Biztkit and Energy-Keri Hilson) I just want to create a visual spectacle for the viewers. The Executive Producer and I decided that i would think about those two ideas and develop them further and advised me to choose tracks that are not that famous.

lly and narrative events become a clear structure. It also involves also a Casting where the individuals are tested on their appearance on camera (Camera Testing). Then every shot is going to be brought to paper (Storyboard) this helps the crew on the actual shoot day. Every thing is planned so nothing goes wrong, because if something goes wrong it takes time and time cost money.
